See below for a call for submissions by 28 February 2014 from Zita Holbourne, member of the TUC Race Relations Committee:
Dear Colleague,
I am curating an art exhibition in April which is hosted by the TUC Race Relations Committee. Please see details below and pass on to your networks and individuals who you think may be interested in participating.
Call for art submissions for a new exhibition to be held in April 2014 in central London. The exhibition is curated by Zita Holbourne, visual artist, poet & trade union / community activist and hosted by the Trades Union Congress Race Relations Committee and will coincide with the annual TUC Black Workers Conference at the same venue, TUC HQ, Congress House.
We are seeking young (aged under 30) black artists ( we use the term black in the political sense to include African, Carribean, Asian) to participate. In 2013 we held the first exhibition entitled ‘Black Women in Focus’ featuring the collections of young black women artists and photographers together with Zita’s art.
The reason behind the exhibition is to showcase the art of young black artists at a time when cuts to arts funding and the disproportionate impact of cuts and austerity are having a multiple impact on young black people. The exhibition is an opportunity to bring your art and perspective to the attention of the trade union movement and to exhibit your art in a centrally located venue of architectural, historical and political interest (opposite the British Museum) . The exhibition will be open to the public and the building is accessed daily by a range of visitors.
The exhibition will take place in the Marble Hall of Congress House and will be set up using display boards. As a result only two dimensional pieces can be considered and very large pieces may not be suitable. These can be in any medium and this includes photography.
If you are interested in participating and meet the criteria then please send 3 pieces of art, with titles, size and medium together with a short biography and the reasons you would like to take part to Zita Holbourne,
Email: zholbourne@aol.com and put ‘TUC Exhibition’ in the subject box.
The pieces you send don’t have to be the pieces you wish to exhibit but are to give an idea of your work. Your art can be on any topic /theme.
Please respond by 28th February. Feel free to post any questions, inbox or email. Please pass on to others who may be interested.
